A home-delivered Big Mac was previously restricted to holidays in Bali and the 2am dreams of drunken people but that’s all set to change — for burger lovers in Karratha, anyway.

McDonald’s partnered with internet delivery service Menulog to test McDelivery — seriously, that’s what they call it — in Sydney’s western suburbs for the past nine months.

The fast-food giant is now extending the trial to other sites around the country, including Macca’s outlets in Hervey Bay in Queensland, South Melbourne and the aforementioned Karratha.

Pilbara News journo Courtney Fowler has been following the story and said customers must place a $30 minimum order and pay an additional $9.95 delivery fee.

We know what you’re thinking: why Karratha?

“We considered factors like the local population and the operations of the restaurant, and we have included restaurants in both metropolitan and regional areas, ” a Macca’s spokesman said.

The service in NSW has attracted mixed reviews on the Menulog site, with one user declaring, “Ronald (McDonald) himself would be proud”, while others bemoaned wait times of more than two hours and “squished and cold” burgers.

Health advocates aren’t exactly thrilled with a service that promises easier access to junk food, but it should be pointed out there are healthy menu options such as the grilled warm chicken salad — which will be ordered by no one.

The McDonald’s spokesman confirmed “there is the intention to offer the service more broadly after following this trial” but said there was no time line for a Perth McDelivery.
