Thinking about something other than a dozen red roses or aftershave for your valentine?

We’ve gone to those in-the-know for awesome Valentine’s Day gifts. Now there’s no excuse . . .

1. LINGERIE

It’s synonymous with Valentine’s Day, so guys, spoil your lady with some gorgeous lingerie.

“Valentine’s Day is a celebration of the personal and intimate love shared between two people and nothing is more intimate than beautiful lingerie, says Caia Browne, corsetry manager at Four Seasons Perth.

2. SPORTSWEAR

It might not be a traditional Valentine’s Day present but sportswear is a great gift idea for the guy or girl in your life, says lululemon’s Dustin Allen.

“Giving the gift of health is a fun way to show you really care about that special someone, ” he says.

3. FINE JEWELLERY

“Jewellery is the perfect gift to make Valentine’s Day special as it stands out from other Valentine’s gifts, ” says Linneys assistant creative director, Justin Linney. “Jewellery celebrates a moment in time shared by two people and that moment will be forever remembered with that one piece of jewellery as the ultimate symbol of love.”

4. COSMETICS

Victoria Curtis, founder of cosmetic brand Curtis Collection, recommends lip gloss, because she says every girl loves a bit of make-up and a kissable lip.

5. SCENTS

You don’t have to buy perfume or cologne to give a romantic scent.

For a subtle, romantic gesture that’s not over the top, Ms Curtis recommends a scented candle.

6. HOMEWARES

If you are looking for a luxurious yet practical gift, why not something for the home? Jenny Hides, head of product at Adairs, says fun pillowcases are an affordable option or indulgent bed linen.

7. CHOCOLATE

“The association of love and lust is connected to chocolate and is reinforced in the feelgood appeal of body products, ” explains Margaret River Chocolate Company co-owner, Martin Black. “Massage in particular is a very popular Valentine’s Day gift and chocolate massage oil makes it even more appealing.”

8. DAY SPA TREATMENTS

Dianne Adams, director of Serene Day Spa and Beauty, says day spa treatments are sure to impress. She says couples’ treatments and massages are popular choices. “Massages are special — especially for those people who don’t have massages on a regular basis, ” she says.

9. BODY PRODUCTS

Ms Adams says quality body products such as body sprays, lotions, body butter and balms make great gifts because using them brings some of the luxuriousness of a day spa home.

10. EXPERIENCES

If you still cannot find the perfect gift, how about treating your valentine to an experience? Kristie Buchanan, chief executive of redballoon.com.au, says popular experiences for Valentine’s Day include flying and boating experiences, dining, cooking classes and tandem skydiving.
