They’re renowned for their fashion-forward collections and now Perth design duo One Fell Swoop are paving the way for a new style of creative collaboration.

While many designers are reluctant to take on board design advice from outside sources, One Fell Swoop’s Daniel Romanin and Nikolina Ergic were happy to team up with Nedlands boutique Coco & Lola to create an exclusive run of dresses.

Noticing a gap in the market for what her customers were hunting for, Coco & Lola owner Jessica Dunlop worked closely with the dynamic local label to produce a limited-edition mini collection for her stylish store.

“Being able to support WA designers in the Perth market can be quite difficult, ” Dunlop told Access All Areas.

“To find a brand that can be feminine, classic and timeless, which is what the Coco customer wants, can be hard in WA. One Fell Swoop and I have been able to capitalise on that demand and collaborate together.”

Selecting designs from One Fell Swoop’s previous collections she knew would appeal to her store’s clientele, Dunlop was given the opportunity to suggest colours and fabrics that Romanin and Ergic wouldn’t normally gravitate towards.

“Jess chose a blue colour we had never chosen before and we’re now using it for summer, ” Romanin explained. “We’d never seen any of our clothes in it and it looks really nice.”

Versatile enough to suit a range of different shapes and sizes, the three limited-edition designs have flown off the racks at Coca & Lola, much to Dunlop’s delight.

“We’ve had an overwhelming response, ” she enthused.

“For designers and boutiques collaborating could be the way forward. It’s a win win for the designer and the store if you can support each other in a way that is going to benefit both of you. And it’s nice to have that point of difference for the customer and for us as a boutique.”
