Since winning the final season of Australian Idol in 2009, Stan Walker has been busy.

Q: How did Holding You come about?

A: Ginny and I met on the set of X Factor New Zealand and we decided we wanted to work together. So we got in the studio and we wrote and recorded the song in one day. It was one of those rare moments that just happened so naturally and so quick.

Q: What do the lyrics mean to you?

A: It was from my own experiences. This song is about the reality of love so we were both sharing and writing what we've experienced through real love.

Q: What was it like being involved with X Factor?

A: I never expected to be a judge on a show like that. It was so encouraging for me to mentor people who were going through the same thing that I went through.

Q: What else is coming up for you?

A: I'm working on another single and also a new album. I eventually want to tour and I'm looking into different films at the moment.

Q: What's your career highlight so far?

A: There have been a few things - definitely acting in Mount Zion, being an X Factor judge, touring with Beyonce and this song Holding You; I think it's a bit of a milestone in terms of songwriting and the fact that it's a duet and we wrote it together.

Q: What challenges have you faced?

A: I think the greatest challenges are patience and perseverance. It's such a hard industry and there are no guarantees of what's to come or what you want to happen.

Q: Who's your inspiration?

A: There are so many but musically Beyonce is my inspiration. I love everything about her.

Q: What advice would you give someone who wants to get into music?

A: Never give up on what you love because nobody else is going to do it for you. Always be positive and believe in yourself.
