How to keep your dream road trip from turning into a nightmare.

When you are about to hit the road, the last thing you want is a bunch of passengers who don’t get along.

We can all push past bad singers or chatterboxes, but hours stuck in the car can get on anyone’s nerves.

If you can’t avoid the people you are travelling with, here are a couple of easy tips to make sure you make the most of your Ocean Drive road trip.

No-one is happy when they are hungry. To cover all bases, we suggest selecting tasty treats to suit everyone’s taste buds. You can’t go wrong with gummy worms, chips or chocolate, fruit, vegetable sticks and nut mix.

Excessive heat is not only exhausting, but can lead to frayed nerves. But everyone likes a different temperature. To combat the afternoon heat, while not irritating your cold-blooded companion, try packing a hand-held fan. This will help cool you and only you down.

Straying from your course has led to many a disagreement between friends — especially when you discover you have been travelling the wrong way for quite some time. If this occurs remember, it’s not easy being either the driver or the navigator — nor is the situation unfixable. Pull over, set your map around the right way, and head off.

Be courteous to your travel buddies, go to the toilet before you leave — multiple rest-stops are high on the list of disagreeable travel behaviours — and if things get tense take a deep breath, remember what the road trip is all about — having a fun time.

Alternatively, sometimes a nap heals all wounds.
