When a new season breaks, we seek out the new fashion looks for that season. Make-up trends tend to follow these changes, too.

When I think of autumn, I think of deep-red and burnt-orange tones.

Your autumn make-up will be different to what you were using in summer. In the hot months, your face is naturally sun-kissed but in autumn, you’ll need to bring more colour into your face and this is where bronzer comes in.

Bronzer is one of my favourite products — it adds warmth and depth to the face without the sun damage.

Using a fluffy blush brush, build the bronzer on to the apples of your cheeks, sweep it up over the brow on to the forehead and lightly buff the edges of your jawline.

Autumn lips

Experiment with some new-season colours and try out a deep red, burnt orange or bronzed nude lip shade. Match your lip liner to your lip tone and use it to colour in the outer corners of your lips. Keeping your lips more matt over autumn will allow you to wear deeper colours during the day as gloss tends to over-enhance the focus of your lips.

New-season eyes

If eyes are your focus, feel free to introduce golden tones into your eyeshadow. Try using some shimmering loose bronze or gold dust on your eyelids to keep your look fresh.

If you are feeling a little experimental, mix your loose pigments with a gel medium (you can get this from various make-up ranges, such as MAC and Paintbox). This will give your shimmer a wet look, which will capture the light beautifully.

Sweep a warm blush tone through your socket — you can enhance this for evenings by using a chestnut brown. Use a fluffy blending brush to buff through your socket line and blend the shadow up into the brow bone.

What’s new this season?

Some of the autumn looks from London Fashion Week featured soft apricot tones on the cheeks, eyes and lips.

Blended eyeliner is trending, keeping the depth using a dark brown or deep plumb. Buff out your eyeliner from three-quarters of the way across your lower lash line. Mirror this application on your upper lash line and join the two lines at the outer corner of your eye. Don’t be afraid to mix some bronze or orange shadow into the liner to balance your make-up. If you’re going for this look, keep your brows lighter, as it softens the features and the overall look.

Bulk up your lashes top and bottom, keeping the volume and separation. Try using brown mascara instead of black. You will find that the warmth will complement your autumn make-up look quite well.

As your autumn wardrobe changes, so too will your make-up bag.

Try something new and adventurous with your autumn look. It may be as simple as using a warmer lipstick.

TIP:  Don’t fall into the daily pattern of ‘same-face syndrome’ — get inspired by autumn colours.
